Dreaming…. Again!

It’s funny where you end up when you’re out driving your favorite car. I can think of dozens of times over the years that I’ve been out exploring the backroads in Minnesota when all of the sudden I come through a set of turns that open up to a beautiful sunset or lake and the photo is etched in my memory forever.
The pics below were taken at a place like that. I remember seeing this grand old house when I was around 18 years old. I was out for a drive around the lakes in my old BMW and through the trees spotted this old farmhouse on Lake Minnewaska. You can’t really see the house from the lake, the roads and barely by the end of the driveway (that’s how I spotted it). It was very well kept and original (just how I like my cars too). It had character and looked well built. But, with every time I’ve ever been by I have yet to see a sign of life. I even left a note on the door once inquiring whether anyone lived here or if it could be for sale! I stopped by this fall again and I snapped a couple pics of my 69 in front of the old garage.

Chris,
Great to see you and reconnect. I love the pictures of the car. You are right… the car “belongs” in front of a place like that!
All the best to you… keep in touch.

Chris,
Nice to see the pix of my “old car”. Loved this car, but I did everything in my power not to do a full repaint. Figured at the time to sell it and move on rather than spend more money on it. I REALLY did like this car. I just picked up my 4th 912. (soft spot for the 912′s) This is an “E”, and just starting to get my hands into it. Love the modern galvanized, narrow body that is even more spartan than the ’69. It does have a sunroof though! You got me going on the “deep 6″ alloys. I’m going to keep this stock, but lower it and put on some 15×6 fuchs. Currently has 14×6 fuchs. Surfed my way to you by means of a “fuchs” search.

Bernie! Great to hear from you. The 69 is now in the hands of another loving owner all the way up in Alaska! He’s given me “first right” when he goes to sell but I unfortunately am not in a position to purchase it back at this time. That was the best 912 I’ve owned.
Congrats on the 912E. That is one Porsche I have not owned. I just did a story on owning 912′s versus 914′s. I would be interested to get your perspective on the E as I don’t have any owner experience with the car.
Happy Motoring~
