The 7 Bridges Tour of Jacksonville

Posted on 08 February 2009 by crunge

To get just about anywhere in Jacksonville, FL you’re guaranteed to cross a bridge. The city is surrounded with different bodies of water from rivers, to intercoastal, to the ocean. There are Seven Bridges that really stand out (in addition to all of the new fly-overs).  These are the Buckman Bridge, The Fuller warren Bridge, The Dames Point Bridge, The Mathews Bridge, The Hart Bridge, The Acosta Bridge and The Main Street. Some are steel and some are concrete. The bridges in the downtown area are beautiful at night because of the city lights and the bridge lighting as well.

Those of us who live near the beaches met early on to cruise to the official meeting spot. We realized that between the four cars we were driving we had 4 of the major models Porsche Produced over the years!

Four significant models of Porsche History. The Porsche 356A, The 912, The 911 Carrera and The 914! After grabbing a quick bite to eat we jump in our cars and start out toward the official meeting spot in Orange Park.

We meet the rest of the group in OP and have a great showing of vintage and newer Porsche cars.

The tour begins heading over the Buckman Bridge from Orange Park and up Interstate 95 where we exit at Hecksher Blvd. This leads us to a photo spot underneat the Dames Point Bridge. Unfortunately the entrance to this photo spot was under construction so we set the world record for Porsche U-turns and headed back to cross the Dames Point.

The group only got split up 1 time in over 60 miles of driving. Here we are waiting for the rest. Another good photo Opp!

We cross the Hart Bridge and the Acosta to our destination in San Marco, The European Cafe.

The European Cafe is the perfect spot for a Saturday morning brunch after a drive like this. I had the Ham & Swiss Croisant which was delicious! I didn’t hear anyone complain about the food. It was the perfect ending to a great tour. Thanks to Mark P. for navigating this fun drive and everyone who showed up!

This was a great run, it was great to see old friends & meet new ones. It was also great to see the Historic Bill Benker, Chris, you should spend a bit of time with him, he has some great stories.

“Very Cool stuff. Are BMWs allowed to crash your parties?” Hi Don,
This specific event was a Porsche event. However, we are working on organizing a regular meet of the European type. Still working on details for place and time, etc… Ideas and all Euro makes would be welcome to that event!

How It All Started

The Motoring Journal started long before I ever sat behind the wheel of a car. Interesting enough, I knew nothing of The Motoring Journal until my purchase of a 1964 Karmann Ghia. You see, Since birth I’ve wanted nothing more than to be around, work on and photograph cars. But, That day while digging through the box of parts that accompanies every good vintage car, there it was. The old beat up, leather-bound journal.
