Antique Boat Show, Alexandria, MN

Posted on 12 July 2009 by crunge

Today I took a break from the world of vintage motoring and turned my attention to some beautifully built antique boats. My hometown of Alexandria, MN is also the home of the Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum. From the late 1800’s through the 1950’s there were several small handmade boat builders turning out beautifully crafted vessels in this area. Now many of those are on display at the museum. MN Maritime also hosts a top-notch antique boat show at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center on Lake Darling. I won’t bore you with too many details other than the fact that this was a great event and it’s free! The lines of these mahogany masterpieces are so fluid and the roar of the inboard motors is fantastic! I would suggest planning a trip to the area for next seasons gathering.

Nice pictures and beautiful boats! The wood trim and finish make me want to reach out and touch it. The lake also implores us to move north! It is hot in FL right now. Hello to H and the kids!

You see, Since birth I’ve wanted nothing more than to be around, work on and photograph cars. But, That day while digging through the box of parts that accompanies every good vintage car, there it was. The old beat up, leather-bound journal.
